It is this that keeps Ennis from being with Jack and causes Gene to shake the branch. Nevertheless, it can be fascinating to examine these types of grim, selfish, unstable, yet occasionally touching and tender love. It is never outwardly stated that Gene and Finny are attracted to one another sexually or romantically, instead it is cleverly hinted at.
